The Neapolisanit s.r.l. is one of the most important benchmarks in the field of rehabilitation in Italy. The centre gained consolidated experience in the field of habilitation, education and rehabilitation of individuals with special needs, specifically with learning and autism spectrum disorders. Its institutional purpose is to ensure the autonomy, communication, learning and well-being of all individuals with physical-psychic-sensory deficits. Neapolisanit s.r.l. is accredited with the National Health System and provides different ways of taking charge of its patients (for example in outpatient, homecare, etc). The Administration, together with the staff involved, has always organized its health services in compliance with the help request of each patient, by studying, analysing and planning a tailored rehabilitation plan according to the specificity of each clinical case. Neapolisanit s.r.l. also deals with consulting in the choice of assistive tools for disabled, family and specialized operators, for the identification and customization of equipment, strategies and concrete care solutions, with the aim of improving and ensuring autonomy, communication and social integration of people with disabilities. In particular, the mission of Neapolisanit has over time been enriched by research progress in the field of disability, looking at the development of applications, software and hardware to improve learning, communication and quality of life of all people with special needs of all ages. The research and development laboratory of Educational Methodologies and Technologies for Learning and Disability (METALAB) within the Rehabilitation Center Neapolisanit arose from this need. METALAB is entirely dedicated to research activities on educational and rehabilitation innovation, conveyed by the integration of tools and methods based on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) combined with treatment models and rehabilitation scientifically accredited as the Applied Behavioural Analysis. The METALAB research staff is engaged in the design and implementation of individualized paths that exploit the use of technological devices to overcome difficult situations related to communication and personal well-being, thus improving the quality of life and the autonomy of people with disabilities or disabilities.

Thanks to the joint work with technology companies, the METALAB division within NEA has developed applications that are often used in educational field, such as:

Astras, a software to evaluate and treat executive functions, easily used by all operators (teachers, psychologists, speech therapists, etc.) who work with children with neurodevelopmental disorders between the ages of 6 and 11.

LIAR, an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tool developed to improve communication in people with speech and expressive communication disorders.

Interview-Informed Synthesized Contingency Analysis (IISCA), a type of functional analysis for problem behaviors.
